History On The Move: One-room schoolhouse en route to Faust Park

A 127-year-old one-room school cabin is getting a new home in Chesterfield. A structure previously known as African School No. 4 in the Chesterfield School District is being relocated from its current location on private land on Wild Horse Creek Road, where it served as a one-car garage, to the Historic Village at Chesterfield’s Faust Park. According to St. Louis County, the property is being donated by Muwafaq Abdel Baset.

Doris Frazier always knew the value of education. Her mother was a teacher. Her father pushed her and her siblings to go to college. She followed in her mother’s footsteps, becoming a substitute teacher at African School #4 in the 1950s. The small, one-room schoolhouse was exclusively for African American children in the Chesterfield area.
