Doris Frazier & The Fiddmont Singers

GROUP BIOGRAPHY

In the 1970s after the encouragement of her father Rev. James E. Fiddmont, Doris and her siblings formed a professional gospel group known as Doris Frazier and the Fiddmont Singers.

The group was mainly comprised of second- and third-generation members of the Fiddmont family (Doris Frazier, Grace Fiddmont Davis, Charles Fiddmont, Norman Fiddmont, Denise Davis, Irene Frazier) alongside two “adopted” brothers (Morris Atkinson, and Richard Hollins). Together, they toured across the U.S. and released four gospel albums (What Love We Share, What Love We Share Part Two, Make Today Count, and I’ve Been Touched) which have since been remastered.

Instead of conveying “the message” through a particular tempo or style, the Fiddmont Singers channeled it through their voice and lyrics. Their lyrical interpretations and expressions of emotion always served to enhance “the message.”

Several examples of their creative originality can be found on the album Make Today Count. With Doris arranging the music and her husband, Clifford Frazier Sr., contributing lyrics inspired by sermons and personal experiences, they made an excellent songwriting team.

The Fiddmont Singers hope that the love, happiness, and inner peace they share is extended to you through their gospel music. To quote the group, “it is our desire that, through the talents God has given, we may serve as a conduit for the power of Jesus to touch those in the world today... [may] these songs convey a message, and as a result of that message, your heart be touched, filled, and overflowing with the love of Jesus each new day.”

What Love We
Share Together 1974

ALBUM DETAILS

This recording is dedicated to our dad and mom. Dad pastored the Mt. Zion Baptist Church for 32 years, during which his entire family were members. He gave so much of himself to several organizations. He was heavily involved in the community, offering his time to civic affairs and educational committees. He also worked diligently in local, state and national Baptist affairs. He and mom stressed the values of Honesty, Truthfulness, and Education to both family and associates, and we remain very grateful for these teachings. Just before dad passed, Doris received the vision to record an album of their favorite songs. Ideas started ringing and provisions were made. Doris told dad about the album, and he encouraged us to do it. Whenever we would get together at home, we would always end up singing. Dad and mom were the kind of parents who never tired of their family and always loved to have us around. Of course, Norman, Charles, Grace, and Doris (the last of the twelve) are very close and greatly enjoy singing together. The more we thought and prayed about the idea, the more we wanted to make this record. Some third-generation members of the Fiddmont family were also included in the joy of making this vision a reality. Clifford and Irene Frazier, Denise Davis, as well as close friends Clarence Lovejoy and Morris Atkinson contributed to the recording. For mom to hear, and for dad who has gone on, we want everybody to know What Love We Share and Shared Together.

What Love We
Share Together
Part Two 1975

ALBUM DETAILS

In 1971, Miss Denise Davis penned the inspiring words and music for the song “What Love We Share Together”. Having transformed a fitting idea into a reality, the song provided the title for the debut album by Doris Frazier and the Fiddmont Singers. From the lyrical content to the sincere emotion demonstrated by the singers, there was an obvious outpouring of love on the record. Released in April 1974, the album was dedicated to the late Rev. James E. Fiddmont Sr. and his lovely wife, Mrs. Lucy Fiddmont. Over 1,000 copies were sold, spreading love and joy into homes throughout the country. Since the first album’s release, the composition of the group had changed. However, it remains primarily composed of second- and third-generation Fiddmont family members (Doris, Grace, Charles, Norman, Denise, and Irene). Two others, Morris (not pictured with the group) and Richard, joined the group as “adopted” brothers. During the past two years, the group has received increasing attention. As a result, they have performed at multiple churches as well as social and civic events. The group has even been seen on television, mainly in the St. Louis area. Daily news throughout the country reminds us of the need to share love and happiness amongst all people. This album is dedicated to this very cause. As always, Doris Frazier and the Fiddmont Singers hope that the love, happiness, and inner peace they share is extended to you through their gospel music. We proudly present What Love We Share Together, Part Two.

Make Today Count - Recorded Live 1978

ALBUM DETAILS

When Doris Frazier and a group of singers came together for their first recording in January 1974, there was no indication as to what would follow. Four years, three LPs, and one 45rpm later, it is clear that the Lord has guided and richly blessed the group, now known as Doris Frazier and the Fiddmont Singers. Upon hearing the group’s music for the first time, individuals often express surprise alongside their pleasure. Why surprise? Because in many respects, the group has given new meaning to the term “gospel music.” Instead of conveying “the message” through a particular tempo or style, the Fiddmont Singers channeled it through their voice and lyrics. Their lyrical interpretations and expressions of emotion always served to enhance “the message.” In recent months, the talented duo of Doris and her husband, Clifford Frazier Sr., has collected messages from both sermons and personal experiences to create their unique brand of “gospel music.” With Clifford primarily handling the lyrics and Doris arranging the music, several examples of their creativity are showcased on this album. The title of Make Today Count takes inspiration from a television program dealing with death and dying. During the program, a man diagnosed with terminal cancer expressed, “I know my condition, and I know that I am going to die, but I live a day at a time and make today count.”

1980

ALBUM DETAILS

It is our desire that, through the talents God has given, we may serve as a conduit for the power of Jesus to touch those in the world today. And in tradition with our previous albums, it is our intent that these songs convey a message, and as a result of that message, your heart be touched, filled, and overflowing with the love of Jesus each new day. There are several special people the Fiddmont Singers would like to thank. First, we would like to thank our closest friend and supporter: our mom, Lucy Fiddmont. We would also like to thank our wives and families, as well as the musicians who so graciously worked with us. And a very deep appreciation goes out to Clifford Frazier Sr. for providing beautiful lyrics to the original songs on this album. Your flow of words say a lot and add so much to the singing ministry of the Fiddmont Singers. The Fiddmont Singers dedicate this album to our boosters and the people who encouraged us to share our “new meaning of gospel music.”
